A teenager suffered injuries that were not life-threatening after she was hit by a car while crossing the street Friday afternoon near Prairie High School.
The Washington State Patrol responded at 2:33 p.m. to the crash on state Highway 503 near the high school. A pedestrian, a 14-year-old girl, was crossing the street, not in a marked pedestrian area, according to Trooper Will Finn.
Drivers in the left lane slowed, but the driver of a Toyota Camry in the right lane did not realize anyone was crossing, Finn said. The teen stepped in front of the car and was struck.
The girl was knocked unconscious but regained consciousness at the scene, Finn said. She was taken to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland for her injuries. She was in stable condition before she was transported.
